Why Speedway?

Most people know Speedway, Indiana as the home of the Indy 500, one of the largest sporting events in the world. Every May, 300,000 people descend on this small town on the west side of Indianapolis to witness a spectacle of automobiles flying around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at over 200 miles per hour.

But there’s more to this small town than most people realize. Speedway is a welcoming place that’s home to more than 14,000 people. It has a small-town feel with all the big-city conveniences. Main Street has coffee shops, restaurants, and places for families to hang out. There are two fantastic parks, an A+ school system, and friendly people everywhere you go.

Although it may not seem like it on the surface, a place like this is a unique opportunity for the people of God to delight in him through God-glorifying worship, display him through a discipling community, and declare his gospel on mission.

Within a 3-mile radius, more than 117,000 people live on the west side of Indianapolis. In this area, there is a shortage of gospel-centered, healthy churches. More than 76,000 of those people do not attend a church of any kind.

Every single church in an area like this counts, and Providence Church wants to make a kingdom impact. Here’s how we plan to do it.

Why Providence? Because the Bible tells the story of a God who is good, holy, wise, and powerful, caring for and reigning over all his creatures and their actions. From him, and through him, and to him are all things (Romans 11:36). Inside of that powerful goodness, he calls people to put all their hope in the finished work of his Son, and be transformed by his Spirit into God-delighting, glory-displaying, gospel-declaring disciplemakers.
